It's 2011 but we ARE living in Orwell's 1984
I recently re-visited an article that I commented on in September this year, under my Discus nom de plume, BrightEyesOpenWide, and found it rather ironic that the link to 'The Scotsman' had disappeared into 'the memory hole'. The Scotsman article clearly contained information that someone, somewhere, did not like. Similarly, in a subsequent comment I suggested that the reader "Check out Stirling University - a hotbed of anti-smoker activism. They seem to have something to hide!".
In relation to the Stirling Uni point, many will be aware that I was referring to the facebook page set up by the Uni to drum up support for them refusing to comply with a freedom of information request in order to hide their back-room workings? The facebook page attracted several comments from the worldwide tobacco CONTROL cult, including the upper hierarchy such as Robert West. West penned a bland comment then disappeared while his drones generally, and his Australian counterpart Simon Chapman in particular, were comprehensively ripped to pieces by pro-choice, pro-freedom commentators. The Facebook page was an unmitigated disaster for tobacco CONTROL so it was no real surprise that the page was removed to save Chapman's humiliation and their corporate embarrassment - another 'memory hole' casualty!
In this instance, the parasites may have consolidated and reinforced my original comment(below) but sadly and disconcertingly it is becoming more common for certain information to just 'disappear' from the internet. In 1933 Hitler famously had public book burnings in an attempt to erase former knowledge and re-write history. The modern day 'book burning' is much more subtle and much more effective - achieved with a mere click of a mouse. There is no fanfare announcing the rewriting of modern history, it is done bit by tiny bit, slowly but surely; imperceptibly; insidiously.

Can someone remind me, are we at war with ‘Eurasia’ or ‘Eastasia’ and was our ‘chocorat’ ration increased or decreased last month? I can't keep up with the constant changes that originate from the ‘Inner Party’ and our 'Ministry of Truth'?
It's the same with this smoking business, one day there are millions of smokers and the next hardly any at all. Have they become ‘unpersons’, erased from history? One year there is a predicted massive death toll, caused by "the leading cause of preventable, premature death" (smoking apparently), next there are hardly any at all and all these new premature deaths are caused by something else entirely, like proscribed foods and alcohol.
This article is one of several ‘prolefeeds’, telling us that becoming a quitter is good and has saved thousands of lives but if we look at stories only a couple of weeks or so ago, ‘they’ were telling us that global cancers, that used to be caused by ‘the leading cause of preventable death’ have increased by a fifth in six years - but NOW they are caused by eating and drinking the wrong stuff. eg: http://thescotsman.scotsman.co...
‘The Ministry of love’(Miniluv) (or was it ‘The Ministry of Plenty’ (Miniplenty)?) are now telling us that lung cancers in many parts of the US are reducing - but I have figures in front of me (1), from another branch of the Ministry, The American Cancer Society, that show Lung cancers in the US INCREASED by a massive 30%+ in the eight year period to 2008, DESPITE a substantial reduction in smoking over the last 50 years!
Lung and Bronchus cancers in USA (ACS: 2010) - New Cases;
2000: - 164,100
2008: - 215,020
(US Pop increase 2000-08 = 8%)
I have noticed that these figures are no longer on the ACS website - must have accidentally been dropped into the ‘memory hole’ at the ‘recdep’.
‘They’ now tell us that 80% of ‘non-communicable diseases’ (In ‘oldspeak’ these used to be called ‘smoke-related diseases’) occur in developing countries but this hides the fact that, case for case, The US has DOUBLE the cancer incidence rate of China (2):
(USA - 407 cases per 100,000 / China - 205 per 100,000)
AND HALF the male smoking rate:
( China - 60% / USA - 25% - or less?)
Is it a coincidence that there is to be a WHO/UN summit on ‘non-communicable’ diseases (3) at the ‘minipax’ next week to re-calibrate public consciousness, ‘doubleplus-legitimize’ this ‘newspeak’, and re-brand the anti-smoker campaign?
How many people will accept this ‘doublethink’? How many believe that the concept of freedom is limited to ‘smoke-free’, ‘alcohol-free’ or ‘salt-free’? How many will consider me guilty of ‘crimethink’ or that I am part of ‘The Brotherhood’ led by the arch-traitors, the tobacco companies and need to be sent to ‘room 101’ or the ‘Joycamp’? I wonder!
Who would have thought that a work of fiction, written well over a half century ago, would be oh so-sooo relevant today? Is anyone concerned that Orwell’s fiction is gradually becoming FACT ?
( Explanatory note for anti-smokers with a strong ‘bellyfeel’ and no ‘ownlife’ who tend to have difficulty thinking for themselves. You probably do not understand some of the odd sounding words above; Go and Read Orwell’s 1984 ref: Newspeak Dictionary - before you indulge in your next ‘two minute hate’ session based on ‘blackwhite’ truth! )
